“NY Comic con” is the largest pop culture event hosting the latest in comics, graphic novels, anime, manga, video games, toys, movies and television. It is same scale of event like “San diego Comic con” holding history and values. More than 150,000 funs (the most ever before) visited "NY Comic con" last time.
The screening place is the theater “IFC center”. it is state-of-the-art downtown cinema for the best in independent, foreign,documentary and classic films. Many funs of movie are coming this NY's Best Art House Theater.
“NY Comic con” is famous for the surprise guest appeared for promote the new movie. George Clooney and Elijah Wood came last year. it also became a topic of conversation that X JAPAN was appeared on special stage of "NY Comic con" before their live at Madison Square Garden.

【September 18, 2015  Additional Information】

Anserwering to many call to rerun, "JUNK STORY" is returning for an encore screening! It starts from November 14th, Saturday and sequentially shows in theaters throughout Japan. For those come to the encore screening can get original coaster for free　on a first‐come‐first‐served basis!

DVD & Blu-ray will be on sale from December 11th, Friday. Advance reservation is available now. Contents are the main part which is 125 minutes long and bonus materials. Bonus materials are "'JUNK STORY' LOST EPISODE" which is a short documentary which includes precious clip and episodes that couldn't fit to the main story, full versions of animations appear in the film and series of trailer.

About this project

We’ll bring to all the hide fans worldwide “JUNK STORY hide 50th anniversary documentary”. It’s been 17 years sinse he passed away so sudden, so many fans are still loving him. This film describes hide’s life, achievements, and thoughts. “JUNK STORY hide 50th anniversary documentary” has received a great response since it was screened in Japan on May 2015. The director and all the production staff really want to show this film in as many countries worldwide as possible. Now it’s the right time to proceed with this ambitious plan.

December, hide’s birth month, 2015 should be our targeting period for holding screenings in Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, and other countries in Asia where many hide fans are. Later on include France and Germany where there’s a big interest in Japanese culture. Finally We'll include Los Angeles which was hide’s second home and the place to realize his dream in North America. We are pushing hard for distributing this film in various formats such as theatrical screening, TV and VOD, DVD/Blu-ray worldwide.

What We’re Trying to Achive

“JUNK STORY hide 50th anniversary documentary”  had a great response since it was screened in Japan on May 23rd 2015. This film was ranked number one in “PIA satisfaction level questionnaire” and over 40,000 viewers enjoyed the screenings. Since then, we have received so many requests for screenings from overseas due to the good reputation and reviews about this film, and the number of requests are getting bigger and bigger all the time. We have found how great and popular hide is until now by receiving this large numbers of requests from many countries. We already had screening plan outside of Japan but the scale now should be much bigger. We have to move forward and make a maximum effort to realize screenings in all countries where fans want to see it. We felt that it is our mission. hide had the dream of  been successful worldwide. So we have to realize hide’s dream by screening his documentary globally, at the same time we want to exchange the thoughts and ideas about this film between the overseas fans and the Japan domestic market.

We believe “JUNK STORY hide 50th anniversary documentary” is a very unique music documentary film from Japan and the movie industry history. Because of its high quality, we should bring this film to overseas and receive good reputation. We need your support for holding screenings in as many countries as we can.

How Your Donations Will be Used

We have to make promotional materials such as english translation and subtitles, flyer and poster artwork in English for screenings and film festivals around the world. We will use your donations to produce these promotions. There’s only a small and limited space for Japanese live action and documentary films to be selected by film festivals and screenings in theaters outside of Japan. It’s not an easy situation for us to bring this film globally but we have confidence that we will succeed because “JUNK STORY hide 50th anniversary documentary” is a unique piece, and most of all, the biggest and important point, this is the story about the one and only talented musician hide, it describes his charisma and way of life. All of this great production under the direction of Futoshi Sato.

Therefore our worldwide screening project should be not only for temporary festival screening and awards but for distributing to theaters, TV, VOD, and DVD/Blu-ray in many countries worldwide. We really want to let people in the world to see, know, and feel this film. We need official supporters to realize this project and make it great success.

The Film

“I don’t want the Japanese domestic music awards, I’ll win a Grammy award!”… hide created music to reach the global market when he said that. “JUNK STORY hide 50th anniversary documentary” is the very first documentary about hide, and it shows  how he was trying to find his own methodology and thought for his fans. We get a close up on his personality with variety of angles such as aesthetic, philosophy, dreams, and his view of tolerance. The shooting method of his film was unusual, without a script we search a 2015 version of hide by interviewing musicians and the people who knew him very well. By reviewing over 1000 hours of hide’s video archives, finding out photos from a huge library, and interviewing over 30 people, we reached hide deeper and deeper. The project became complicated, wandered, and found new directions. After a succession of distress and pleasure, we finally completed this film. 

Message from Director

What kind of film should we produce for hide’s 50th anniversary? This film should be an everlasting documentary of hide. The further the shooting went with the persons who knew hide very well, I realized I had the mission to let people know widely about the one and only artist hide. “JUNK STORY hide 50th anniversary documentary” is a documentary about the bond between hide and his comrades, and the story about all the persons who love hide. The story became a never seen before music documentary film in the Japanese movie industry. We have to give a big "thank you" to the great rock star hide and all hide lovers that cooperated with us. Screenings in Japan started in 50 theaters and more additional opportunities were coming, we had a two month screening tour in Japan. But the tour still continues globally. We considered what we can bring this film to more people and make it an everlasting documentary of hide. One way is to bring this film from Japan to the world. All the production staff had a big plan for screening this film abroad. Now it’s time to make it. When we finish our screening tour in Japan, we started to discuss about world screening project and we start to plan it. Since we received so many screening requests from overseas it made us decide to proceed with this project. It will become a new chapter of “JUNK STORY hide 50th anniversary documentary”. I’d like to advance the hands on the clock. The journey for gathering the pieces just began and hide will go abroad again.

Our Team

Futoshi Sato, Director

In 1995, the short film “Date Train” made a boom when he was assistant director. After that, his career took off and has won awards in TV dramas, documentaries, music videos, and TV commercials. He also has other careers such as a script writer for TV dramas, games, and radio shows, and he is a novelist. In 2003 his first feature film “Indian Summer” was released. And the film “Gal Basara”, TV drama “Majisuka Gakuen high school” and “Sabadol” were directed by him. 

Born in Sendai, Miyagi, Japan, on March 19th 1968.

Keisuke Ito, Producer

When I was a college student 17 years ago I never expected that I would become the producer of hide’s film. 17 years have passed, I'm grateful for the release of “JUNK STORY hide 50th anniversary documentary” in the year of hide’s 50th birth. We have received so many messages and good reviews from fans just after the start of the theatrical screening. This is because of hide’s unique talent and great personality, but also we all the production staff tried as hard as we could do our best for making a success with this documentary. hide brought out the best in us, I believe he is a very special person. Now it’s time to bring “JUNK STORY hide 50th anniversary documentary” worldwide. We all the production staff have the same mind frame to make it an international success, that was hide’s dream. Nice to meet you, I’m Ryuichi Matsumura, producer of “JUNK STORY hide 50th anniversary documentary”. I want to thank all the fans and staff members for reaching 54 screenings during 9 weeks since May 23rd to July 17th 2015 in Japan. I have to say thank you again to everybody that watched and participated in this film. This is the documentary celebrating hide’s 50th anniversary of birth. You can see hide’s personal history, encounter his music, friendship and bond with comrades, conflict and distress for composing songs, pleasure and excitement, all of it is conveyed in the film. You can find a tender guy who always kept smiling. I think the reason why hide stills fascinating people it’s because he studied the ways of entertainment not only for Japan but for the world and use it by himself. His view of the world is wide and deep, timeless, one reason why he is still alive in our heart. I’m proud of the film universality that describes hide’s philosophy and aesthetics. When I was 16 years old I was so moved by Akira Kurosawa’s film “Yojinbo”, that after I decided to make films. I still remember those moments in the film just like when hide was so shocked by rock music that he started to play instruments. “JUNK STORY hide 50th anniversary documentary” is made by encounters of hide, director Sato, and all persons that have a great passion. I hope that more and more supporters can join this international screening project and share excitements with you, us, and hide that’s a great motivation for me.

Born in Osaka, on September 17th 1969. In 1996 he joined director Sogo Ishii’s film school. After that he, as a freelance, was involved in many film productions such as “Cats Eye”, “Gamera 3”, “Shikoku”, “Sennen Tabito”, “By Player”, “Zawa Zawa Shimokitazawa”, “Gunjo Ikki”, “Between Calmness and Passion”, “Amidado Dayori”, “Spy Sorge”, “Zatoichi”, “The Housekeeper and the Professor”, “Akane Sora”, “Argentine Hag”, “20th Century Boys”, “Kiseki no Ringo”, etc.

On September 2013 he joined SKIYAKI Inc.

Date of Birth: December 13, 1964

Place of Birth: Yokosuka, Kanagawa, Japan

He had two sides of activities, one was as a the guitarist “HIDE” of X JAPAN, another was as the solo artist “hide”, hide with Spread Beaver and zilch. hide’s creation and performance were innovative and full of originality, it was described like a traveling amusement park and a toy box that were knocked over. After his regrettable death in 1998, hide’s sound of music and message are brought out nowadays by the activities of his production staff and artists. In 2014, hide’s 50th anniversary year of birth, a miraculous new song “Ko-Gal” was released in his memorial album record. This song was produced by hide’s song writing partner I.N.A., he used YAMAHA’s singing voice synthesizer software VOCALOID to produce it. hide was a great rock artist who still has a huge following all over the world.

Risks and challenges

We started this film production during Autumn in 2013. The production staff never met hide before and that put a big pressure on us. Thank you all to the great people of hide's team who cooperated with us and taught us about their pride. We finally completed this film. When we saw the smiles of hide's team and friends, we felt like a member of that team.
